Empowering one anotherRecently, I sat down with a few young women to discuss the various issues they were going through. As I was listening to the difficult or confusing seasons they were in, I was reminded of this verse from Titus.
These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes,to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.
Titus 2: 4-5 (NLT)
As women, we all have a role to play in mentoring, mothering, and raising the next generation. In Lisa Bevere?s book, Nurture, she describes these roles as spiritual grandmothers, mothers, and daughters. It is a transferring of knowledge, wisdom, and skills from one generation to the next. We are responsible to care, guide, and empower one another in and outside of the church.
Every woman I sat with and spoke to was going through a very critical season in their life; the very decisions they made in that moment would affect their families and well-being. My heart became burdened for them, and suddenly I felt overwhelmed with the desire to help. I cried out to the Lord, asking Him how I could empower these women. How could I give them a sense of hope in the Lord, and empowerment to carry on beyond their current circumstance? I began to realize that I can?t do this alone. I asked God for wisdom in those moments, and he provided it. However, I had a sense in my spirit, and began to reflect on this question: ?where did the mothers and grandmothers go??
This blog is not meant to put blame on any generation or anyone in particular. It is a reminder for all women to live out their calling. To be there for one another. To transfer the wisdom we receive from God to others. To be available and open to those who are hurting. To make time to serve and empower someone else. The best way to feel empowered is to empower others. Don?t allow the burden of caring for others hold you back. As you care for them, press into the Lord and He will comfort you. There is a great call on us to be a force for one another.
God may my heart always burn with a passion for your people, a desire to see your bride fully awakened.
